NEWPoint GSPs Breeding Policy |
NEWPoint German Shorthaired Pointers breeding program strives to produce versatile and sound GSPs that can be outstanding performance dogs, working and competing in any venue, such as field/hunt, conformation, agility, obedience/rally, tracking/search and rescue, etc..., in addition to being loving family members. |
NEWPoint believes the best home for a dog is when it is allowed to live in the house with its owner and be a part of the family; therefore, NEWPoint will not sell a puppy to anyone who plans to confine it exclusively to a kennel run or backyard. |
GSPs are great family dogs that need a lot of attention as well as exercise and training. Puppy and Basic Obedience training is strongly recommended to help socialize your puppy, and all owners are encouraged to be active with their dogs in whatever event or activity they enjoy. |
All puppies are sold with a buyer/seller contract and guarantee against genetic health defects. |
Much time and thought goes into the planned breeding of each litter, and they are carefully bred to produce strong hunting instincts, to maintain breed type, and to possess wonderful temperaments with a desire to please. Puppies are born and raised in the home, receiving lots of love, attention, stimulation and environmental interaction. |
Litters are graded for structure at about 7 weeks. New owners who wish to have pups classified as "show" puppies always get priority. All pups sold as hunting/companion/pets are on AKC limited registration and cannot be used for breeding. AKC Limited Registration pups can compete in all performance events but are ineligible to compete in conformation and any offspring are not eligible for registration. It is highly recommended that hunting/companion/pet animals be spayed or neutered at the appropriate age. |

Both Sire and Dam must be a minimum of 2 years old. |
Both Sire and Dam must be either a Field or Show champion. |
Both Sire and Dam must have CERF eye certification. |
Both Sire and Dam must have OFA hip certification of good or excellent. |
Any breeding by live cover requires a current negative brucellosis test. |
It is also recommended both sire and dam to have OFA elbow certification, OFA cardiac certification, and the Optigen genetic screening for Cone Degeneration or dayblindness (while this is less common, it can be tested for with a DNA test which will tell you if the dog is a carrier, allowing for more responsible breeding). |
German Shorthaired Pointers are an active breed that need plenty of exercise. The purchase of a German Shorthaired Pointer is a big decision and should be well thought out as should the purchase of any pet. |
